Somali Government Deploys More Troops to the Border, Following Kenyan Threats.
Sunday, 10 Oct 2020. Reports from the Gedo region say that the federal government has deployed more troops along its border with Kenya. On the Somali-Kenyan border earlier this month, clashes broke out between the two countries' forces, resulting in the killing of civilians by Kenyan forces.
Troops were
deployed along the border between the two countries, particularly in BeletXaawo
and Mandera districts, where they launched heavy operations. The districts
along the border have been the scene of several clashes between the two
countries' forces in the past, as well as acts of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group
that has carried out bombings on Kenyan military bases. On the other hand,
kidnappings of international aid workers by Alshabab are common in the region.
Al-Shabaab
militants have always claimed responsibility for the bombings, which killed
thousand people.BakaalKooke the stabilization forces commander in the Gedo region,
said security forces were ordered to reinforce, to prevent acts of anti-security
operations.
It is
noteworthy that Farmajo refused to allow the president of Jubaland state Ahmed
Madobe to go there and work for his administration. This time, it appears that
Farmajo is campaigning to create tension in the Gedo region between the two
countries in order to attract the hearts of Somali people to his government's
shortcomings in the run-up to the elections.
However,
the new move by the federal government comes as Kenya has sent a warning letter
saying it will target Somali forces if there is another outbreak of violence on
the border.
