Iran Intensifies Threats; Tension Erupts In Middle East
Iran’s regime intensified an aggressive posture last week. Middle Eastern nations witnessed missile attacks in Iran, the death of IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) members in Syria, and reports of cyber attacks in Israel.
This comes amid the Russia-Ukraine war because the Western nations are distracted. Middle Eastern nations have been fighting their battles for the past few months. Iran has been silent in recent weeks in terms of making new threats. Reportedly, all these can be a part of the Iranian game plan amid the Ukrainian crisis.
As per media reports, in January and February, Iran worked with its Houthi militia in Yemen to launch drone and missile attacks in one of the middle eastern nations. Then Iran went silent for a bit.
Iran had been working closely with Russia on a deal. Reportedly, Russia was going to demand its “rights” under any deal, which means its trade with Iran would be exempt from sanctions. However, these talks stopped when Russia launched a war in Ukraine.
Iran fired a dozen ballistic missiles at Iraq this week. Reportedly, Iran targeted areas where a new United States consulate is being built in Erbil in the Kurdistan Region. The United States condemned these attacks. Earlier, the United States accused Iran of supplying the Houthis group with arms, training, and financial support.
Iran reportedly uses the militias to target Israel, the Gulf, and traffic arms. Iranian regime moves closer to cause tensions in Gulf nations. As per media reports, Iran and Israel's tensions appear to be growing.
According to The Jerusalem Post, Iran is careful in using missiles to target Erbil, but also not kill anyone. This is a part of Iran’s tactic that has been seen many times since 2019. Iran attacked several ships in May and June 2019 and no one was harmed.
