US considers imposing sanctions on four Somali officials including Farmaajo

The United States has been desperately waiting for Somalia to conclude its democratic process without any disturbance but some of the officials in the country are delaying the process making the US consider imposing sanctions on them.

There are four Somali officials who have been identified by the United States for creating hindrance in the parliamentary elections and hence there are chances of the Biden administration to go ahead with forcing sanctions on them.

Earlier this month, there were several reports in the regional media about America's interest in the Somali elections and the extent it is willing to go for Somalia to conduct a proper electoral event.

The United States had already announced sanctions on some of the officials before and now they might add more to the list, says a report. Earlier it was the Secretary of State Antony Blinken who had said that sanctions were “to promote accountability for their obstructionist actions.”

This time too, it is highly possible that the US administration will go ahead with imposing Visa sanctions on these four officials. The ones that have been identified for the act include Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed also known as Farmaajo, who is the president of Somalia.

Farmaajo has been known for his selfish acts since the time he came to power and in desperation to keep the administration to himself, he has been notoriously delaying the process. Others who have made it to the list are Hassan Khairy, Abdel Rahim Guled, Fahad Yassin.
