Elon Musk Tweets His 'Peace Plan' To End Ukraine War, Zelensky Responds
Billionaire and Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, on Monday, asked Twitter users to weigh in on a plan to end Russia's war in Ukraine. His plan drew immediate condemnation from Ukrainians, including the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Ukrainian President responded to Musk’s plan with his own poll. Zelensky wrote on Twitter, "Which Elon musk do you like more?" He offered two responses: one who supports Ukraine and one who supports Russia.
Musk, the world's richest man, proposed U.N.-supervised elections in four occupied regions that Russia last week moved to annex after what it called referendums. Many countries condemned Russia’s new annexation of parts of Ukraine as illegal and a violation of the country's sovereignty. The votes were also denounced by Kyiv and Western governments as illegal and coercive.
The world's richest man reportedly wrote on Twitter, "Russia leaves if that is the will of the people.” Musk suggested that Crimea, which Russia seized in 2014, be formally recognized as Russia, the water supply to Crimea be assured and Ukraine remains neutral. Musk asked Twitter users to vote 'yes' or 'no' on the plan.
The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, also tweeted in response, "Dear Elon musk when someone tries to steal the wheels of your Tesla, it doesn't make them the legal owner of the car or the wheels.”
Musk followed up his first tweet with another poll: "Let's try this then: the will of the people who live in the Donbas and Crimea should decide whether they are part of Russia or Ukraine." He said that he cares "that millions of people may die needlessly for an essentially identical outcome."
The Russia-Ukrainian war has been ongoing since February 2022. On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. Kherson, one of the four regions illegally annexed by Russia last week, has been one of the toughest battlefields for the Ukrainian forces.
