Colombia voice support for Saudi Expo 2030 bid
Colombia, a country in South America with coastlines, has expressed its official support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo, a global gathering of nations and leaders to showcase the greatest innovations.
On Friday, Alvaro Leyva Duran, the Minister of Foreign
Affairs of Colombia, expressed its support for the Kingdom’s bid to host the
event. Adel Al-Jubeir, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi
Arabia, Cabinet member and climate affairs envoy, met with Alvaro Leyva Duran
on Friday. During the meeting, the two ministers noted the importance of
bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Colombia.
The Saudi Foreign Minister thanked the Colombian Foreign
Minister for his country’s support for the Kingdom’s bid to host Expo 2030.
Al-Jubeir also thanked Alvaro Leyva Duran for his warm and gracious
hospitality.
According to the Colombian Ministry of foreign affairs,
Saudi Arabia and Colombia have agreed to cooperate in the cultural, energy and
tourism fields. Reportedly, the governments of the two countries are working on
memorandums of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in these fields.
Earlier, Mokgweetsi Masisi, the President of Botswana,
voiced his support for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host World Expo 2030 in Riyadh. He
also voiced Botswana’s support for Saudi Arabia.
The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) Member States
will elect the host country of World Expo 2030. The candidate cities for World
Expo 2030 are Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Busan (South Korea), Rome (Italy), and
Odessa (Ukraine).
Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, submitted its bid to
the Bureau International des Expositions to host World Expo 2030 in September
last year. Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia,
submitted a letter to the Secretary General of the Bureau International des
Expositions.
