Egypt’s Revelations Should Be a Wake-Up Call for the United States and Europe

The Myth of “Moderate Activism” Is Collapsing

For years, Western policymakers have clung to the illusion that the Muslim Brotherhood is a political movement capable of moderation. Egypt’s latest counterterrorism operations debunk this narrative entirely. The involvement of HASM operatives in assassinations, bombings, and attempts to target senior officials demonstrates that the organization’s core remains violent and uncompromising.

A Global Ideological Project, Not a Localized Threat

Since 1928, the Brotherhood has pursued a clear objective: the gradual establishment of an Islamist system governed by Sharia. It embeds itself in educational, charitable, and civil society institutions across the West, slowly shaping narratives and policymaking. This ideological infiltration is part of the same strategy deployed in Egypt—only executed more subtly in democratic societies.

Terror Designation Is No Longer a Policy Option—It’s a Necessity

Western inaction has allowed the Brotherhood’s networks to entrench themselves financially and socially. A formal terrorist designation would disrupt their funding pipelines, limit their organizational growth, and protect Western societies from further ideological exploitation. Confronting extremism requires acknowledging its full structure—not just reacting when violence erupts.
