Twitter lifts ban on Trump’s official account but FB, Instagram extends it indefinitely

Twitter lifts the ban, but Facebook extends an indefinite ban on the official FB and Instagram account of the US President Donald Trump for at least two weeks, the social media giant stated. 

Numerous social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat had to take steps to ban Trump's official accounts after his supporters breached and rioted the US Capitol in Washington DC. 

On Thursday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted on FB, "We think the risks of permitting the President to continue utilizing our platform during this period are just very incredible. Hence, we are expanding the ban that we placed on his Fb and Instagram accounts indefinitely till the next fourteen days until inauguration day." 

Zuckerberg added that the 24-hour ban has been extended as Trump utilized our services to incite riots against a democratically chosen government." 

Thousands of Trump supporters had amassed the US Capitol on Wednesday, disrupting a Congress session where members were deciding on the 2020 US Presidential elections.

As per Zuckerberg, following the announcement of the final election results by the Congress, presently, the focus will be on a peaceful transition of government.

"In the course of years, we have permitted President Trump to utilize our services with our rules, on occasion we deleted the content or naming his posts when they violated our company policies," Zuckerberg added in a post.

He added, "We did this as we believe that people have a right to political discourse, even for controversial speeches. However, the current situation is very different".

Meanwhile, Twitter had banned Trump's account for 12 hours and has lifted it. Following that he posted a video expressing, that since Congress has announced the presidential results, a new government will be made on 20 Jan," he stated in the video. "My focus currently is to guarantee a smooth and seamless transition of power."
