Blinken condemns resignation of Lebanon PM-designate, says should have taken responsibility
The United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has called out Lebanon Prime Minister Saad Hariri for abandoning the country during crucial moments. Blinken, who was representing America’s stand on the issue, said that it was disappointing that the designated PM resigned.
Like many other countries, the US is also ready to help Lebanon in this difficult time of economic collapse, but like all of them it is also expecting a proper government in funcion to help Lebanon overcome this almost unrecoverable economic crisis of the country. The US stressed on formation of government to avail the funding of donor countries.
Blinken was critical of Hariri for abandoning his efforts to form a government and said that the former PM did so after he had promised to get Lebanon back on track nine months ago. “It is critical that a government committed and able to implement priority reforms be formed now,” added the secretary of state.
Lebanon is not only drowning in a deep economic pit but also is barely surviving under the extreme level of corruption in the country. Politicians are openly adapting to corrupt measures and are only catering to their personal gains without even considering the state of the civilians and residents of the country.
Be it food or other basic needs such as medicines and treatments, everything is going haywire in the country. For a long time, the government relied on the Armed forces but with the current state and economic burden, even they are up for a massive collapse. Army chief had earlier expressed concerns about non-payment and lack of basic resources.
Politics in the country has reached an all time low and they have only deepened the crisis further. The US diplomat also stressed on the damage caused by the political class saying that it has ‘squandered the last nine months.”
