Xi Jinping Tells Chinese Army To "Prepare For War" But Why

The President of China, Xi Jinping, has said that China's national security is facing increased instability and asked the Chinese army to be “prepared for war.”

Xi Jinping ordered the PLA (People's Liberation Army) to devote all its energies to improving capability and maintaining combat readiness to fight and win wars.

On Tuesday, Xi inspected the joint operations command center of the CMC (Central Military Commission of the Communist Party). In his first address to the military, Xi said that the world is undergoing more profound changes. He also stressed that China's national security is facing increased instability and uncertainty.

Reportedly, the Chinese President asked the military to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests, and complete various tasks entrusted by the party and the public as he took charge of the military for a third five-year term. He was reappointed as the General Secretary of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) and head of the CMC after he won the election.

Retired Air Force General Xu Qiliang also said in a commentary that the PLA must prepare for a rapid transformation from peace to “wartime.”

China is also participating in COP 27, the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference on climate change. In the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh, which is hosting the COP27 climate summit, China has discussed climate change.

The Chinese delegation to Sharm el-Sheikh, led by the vice minister of ecology and environment Zhao Yingming, is attending the summit. Xie Zhenhua, China’s special envoy for climate change, is China’s public face at COP27.

During the summit, Xie Zhenhua reportedly said, “The road of quality development is to reduce carbon while reducing pollution, and reduce pollution while reducing carbon.” The Chinese official also made a connection between the recently proposed Global Security Initiative and the need to address climate change.
