Seven-member Syrian family perishes in fire after surviving earthquake

Local media said that a seven-member Syrian family who had relocated to a property in Turkey after surviving last week's earthquake perished in a fire on Friday.

The Syrian family moved to Konya in the country's center from the severely destroyed city of Nurdagi in southeast Turkey.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake in southeast Turkey and Syria has killed over 41,000 people, making it the biggest natural disaster to strike the area in decades.

According to the state-run Anadolu news agency, the Syrian family relocated with their relatives in Konya following the earthquake, joining the millions of other people who were devastated by the disaster.

Despite noticing the fire, we were unable to put it out. A local named Muhsin Cakir told Anadolu that a girl was saved from the window.

The five dead children, according to Anadolu, ranged in age from four to thirteen.

If the girl who was saved came from the same household was unknown. Turkiye is home to about four million Syrians.

According to official statistics, many of them reside in the southeasterly districts that have been severely damaged by last week's disaster, which has killed more than 38,000 people in Turkey and about 3,700 in Syria.
