Iran and not Libya is behind Lockerbie Bombing, says former US Intelligence Agent

John Holt was the former US intelligence official in charge of the investigation of Libyan double agent Abdul-Majid Giaka, yet he was never called to the judicial hearing. In an interview with the Times of Israel, he revealed that attempts were made to divert attention from Iran and direct on Libya.

He stated that he has reasons to believe that there was a coordinated attempt, for unexplained reasons, to shift the original probe from Iran and its bomb-production Palestinian fanatically the PFLP General Command.

"Presently we should zero in a new probe on the Iranians and their connections with the fighter plane.

He added, "I would begin by asking the current Attorney General William Barr for what valid reason he abruptly shifted focus in 1991 when he was an attorney general.."

Pan Am Flight 103 was exploded over the Scottish town of Lockerbie in Dec 1988 while heading from London to New York that killed 270 individuals, most Americans heading back home.

The Libyan intelligence official Abdelbaset Al Megrahi was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2001 after being found guilty for the homicide of 243 passengers, 16 crew members, and 11 occupants of Lockerbie who lost their lives in the assault.

Al Megrahi, who denied the charges, died in 2012 after being released three years sooner by Scotland's administration on merciful grounds after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

John Holt expressed that following 20 years he was breaking his silence on the bombings of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland on December 21, 1988.

I can reveal to you that I have been telling the FBI and CIA since being questioned by them in mid-2000, that I and numerous other intelligence officials don't think that Libya is answerable for the attack. Iran, as the first proof appeared, is the main culprit of the bombing."

"The proof and rationale in the current case against Mr. Masud are as fragile as the cases were twenty years prior when Barr drifted from the undeniable guilty party, Iran," he charged.

Holt urged to reexamine the case because of the availability of proof on Iran and anomalies in the US government introduction of the evidence at the principal trial.

Holt is a Professor of Political Science at a US college. He served over 40 years in the US Intelligence, including 25 years as a CIA Operations Officer for the Middle East. He was the long-lasting overseer for Abdul Majid Giaka, who was the key US government witness in the Lockerbie case held at The Hague in 2000, the Times of Israel reported.
