Solomon Islands’ Manasseh Sogavare Blames Foreign Powers for Stirring Anti Government Protest

Manasseh Sogavare, the Solomon Islands Prime Minister, blames foreign powers for anti-government protests in his nation.

On Friday, witnesses stated that Australian police started taking control of the Solomon Islands capital Honiara following vicious demonstrations in the South Pacific Island country. Sogavare had called for help from Australia after the circumstance went out of hand.

Meanwhile, the Australian telecaster ABC announced that anti-government protestors had targeted the Sogavares house compound, setting the building ablaze. Australian police came to control the situation, apparently by discharging warning bullets and tear gas.

Australia had stated on Thursday that it would send over 100 police and defense personnel to help control the rioting in significant regions.

On Friday, protesters were found looting and setting buildings and cars on fire in the Chinatown area, the situation was brought in control by Australian police via utilizing tear gas; a fresh curfew was imposed in the area later.

Many dissenters come from the most crowded region Malaita and feel neglected by the government in the Guadalcanal region and are against its 2019 decision to end strategic relations with Taiwan and establish formal ties with China.

Sogavare maintained that he stands by his legislatures' choice to accept Beijing, which he defined as the central issue in the violence tragically influenced by other foreign powers.

However, Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne disagreed that the interference of other nations had worked up the distress. We have not indicated that by any means, Payne stated. We've been extremely clear. Our view is that we don't wish to see violence. She added that we would expect a return of peace and stability in the nation.
