WHO expresses concern about China’s Covid situation

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern about the current Covid situation in the People’s Republic of China. According to a WHO senior official, China may be struggling in keeping a record of daily Covid cases amid a spike in COVID-19 infections.

WHO urged the Chinese government to focus its efforts on vaccinating people across the country to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The head of the U.N. agency said that China could face an explosion of Covid cases. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the United Nations agency needed more accurate data about the current Covid situation in the country.

Covid-19 infections have increased recently in China. Experts have also warned that China may report more than a million deaths next year due to rising Covid cases.

Hospital admissions and requirements for intensive care unit (ICU) support have also increased in the country. The surge in fatalities has also been reported across the country.

Recently, various videos and photos emerged on social media. The videos showed dead bodies piled up outside the hospital. Recent viral videos on Twitter showed that Covid-positive dead bodies piled up at hospital and cremation centers.

However, the Chinese government has not made any official statement on the current Covid situation in the country. It raised concerns about the factual reports on the Covid situation in the country.

Recently, China lifted its ‘Zero-Covid policy’ after receiving backlash from its people. China also reported two Covid deaths recently.

Germany also sent its first batch of BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines to China. The vaccination rate is low in the country, especially among the elderly.

Earlier, Chinese officials had forced people with Covid-19 to go to isolation camps in order to curb the spread of Covid cases. China followed the zero-Covid policy wherein the authorities locked Covid positive people.
