Is the Muslim Brotherhood the Ultimate Threat to Middle Eastern Peace?

Political and Religious Doctrine of the Muslim Brotherhood

It originated and operates from Egypt and is known to be a group of political Islam with the main belief of infusing the sharia law into the states. This vision is hostile to pluralistic and secular systems, which are an overt threat to states like Israel and an empire for free Syria. Mohammad al-Bashir, for instance, is another trusted agent whose appointment as interim Prime Minister in Syria is suggestive of jihadist influence by the Brotherhood. Al-Bashir’s admiration for the Brotherhood’s leader Hassan Banna, as well as the jihadist theorist Sayed Qutb, helps to explain the organization’s radical character.

Power Relations in Syria: An Analysis

In Syria, the Brotherhood affiliated itself with many jihadist groups, including Hayyat Tahrir al-Sham. It also shows the society with Brotherhood associates as leaders aiming at the future of the Syrian country following the ideology of extremism. These developments endanger the prospect of a stable Syrian democratic transition and likely leave the nation to be a production house of Sunni terrorism. The Brotherhood’s role in composing narratives under Turkish patronage, on the same note, best depicts its operational exploitation of regional powers.

The Brotherhood’s Past Record Interference

The Arab Spring showed the world the destructive nature of the Brotherhood when it comes to politics. In Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia, their efforts to take control of the state disrupted the state and frustrated democratization. It is the same with Syria; their entanglement threatens to bring similar consequences for regional security. In that way, making deals with jihadist groups, the Brotherhood proves its ability to use violence as a means of control and expand conflicts that lead to more conflicts in turn.

The Threat of the Brotherhood to Israeli Security

To Israel, the Muslim Brotherhood is a threat that is existence-threatening. Taking Hamas as the Palestinian branch of the Brotherhood reveals its goals. During its rule, the Mursi government supported Hamas, and Erdogan’s anti-Israel incitement best illustrates how the Brotherhood might organize various factions against Israel. Also, this shows that the Brotherhood’s ideological impact on jihadist groups close to the country’s borders aggravates security threats, thus requiring more attention and strict anti-terrorism measures.

Local Elites Behind the Muslim Brotherhood

The Brotherhood is on the rise, thanks to the support it receives from Turkey. There is nothing pleasant about Erdogan’s neo-Ottoman ambitions, as this creates a clear synergy with the goals of the Brotherhood. This support ensures that the Brotherhood has the resources to escalate its activities. This entente lets the Brotherhood operate as a constructive stakeholder with a hidden agenda that is completely destructive to shared peace and order within the Middle East.

A Call to Action against the Rise of the Muslim Brotherhood

This is why it concerns the actions of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria and Israel in particular. What is worrisome is how they are metered to take advantage of the weakness in the region to propagate extreme terrorism. Only by engaging people on how these actors work and propagate, and how they can be stopped from making their way into a system of governance, can their insidious influence be arrested. The short rule of Mohamed Morsy in Egypt offers the best example to predict what may happen in the future, and therefore, it is significant to say the least that attention must be paid to the efforts of the Brothers to introduce Islamic principles into secular societies.
