How can African countries change the course of Climate Action?
Like each person is responsible for dictating the things around oneself, each government is responsible for national affairs. This statement becomes even more powerful when it comes to community-related matters especially those directing the natural causes. Climate change is one such phenomenon.
Not entirely natural but climate change is still a huge cause of concern for the entire world. It is important to understand that even though each one of us will be affected by the desperate changes in the climates, the community which is least responsible for it will have to face the harshest of measures.
Africa is one of the major continents dealing with climate crises. In fact, it will not be wrong to say that indigenous communities in the region are the ones who will be suffering the most due to such drastic changes and yet somehow, their representation on international platforms seems to be very less.
There are 54 countries in the continent and yet the region is struggling to make itself heard and somewhere it is to do with the preconceived notions about the people. But all of this was pledged to change at a conference hosted by the Royal African Society, International Crisis Group, and Africa Confidential on Climate, Conflict, and Demography in Africa aimed at providing a better platform and louder voice to Africans.
African governments have some of the strongest changes for the world to follow and this medium will be a vice to the unheard section. But for them to move any further, they will have to measure the changes and their impact on people more efficiently. Africa is contributing the most in terms of ideas and execution in tackling climate change despite being the one to be least responsible for it.
The African plan of execution revolves around-- identifying the source and Putting pressure on emitters. Cop26 will be the ideal platform to bring out the issues. Another way by which they plan on tackling environmental destruction is by targeting the investment plan.
Understanding where and how to invest is extremely important and that is what even African society suggests. Here it is necessary to point out that even people need to address such a minimal amount of money provided to the African society to take matters into their hands and make an impact.
Another factor here is making people understand that Africa might be the first region to experience such strong climatic pressure and its high time people show interest to support African countries in addressing their climate challenges.
