Israel-Lebanon’s secret deal about Natural Gas

 Israel has reportedly signed a secret deal with Lebanon to supply natural gas to the fuel-scrapped nation. Israel has agreed to supply natural gas after the deal was brokered by the United States envoy Amos Hochstein.

It is a first-of-its-kind agreement between the two nations and it was only agreed upon this weekend. Under the deal, Israel will be transferring gas from the Leviathan field to Jordan on to Lebanon by way of Syria.

Not just the United States, but even Russia was involved in the process along with the Biden administration, even Russian President Vladimir Putin coordinated the whole meeting to keep things in order and process the deal. 

One of the reasons as per experts of why the deal came into existence was because the US wanted Lebanon to stop its dependence on Iran for natural gas or any such needs and hence provided Israel as an alternate solution for its concerns. 

The role of Iran in Lebanon’s affairs has been increasing in the last few months especially after Beirut is witnessing huge protests against the leaders in power under allegations of corruption and more.
